Spotting is the term used for small blood loss between your regular periods.
It can be a sign of pregnancy or ovulation. Other causes of spotting include vaginal infections, hormonal fluctuations, using or quitting oral contraceptives, low thyroid levels, the use of IUDs and chlamydia infection. If in doubt, you should visit your GP/nurse.
If you are pregnant, there is a small risk that something might be wrong, so check with your doctor. Keep in mind however, that many women who notice spotting in the beginning of a pregnancy go on to have perfectly healthy babies. But just to be on the safe side, get it checked.
